Shadows

A grey day at the beach, shadowed mysteriously, finds a couple hesitating – each pulling in a different direction. She’s coaxing him away from the man in grey who inexplicably frightens her. While behind him a shadow figure falls & she fears, unreasonably, that he may be next. And she only has her parasol for protection, having already abandoned her bouquet which now lies on the shadow’s edge. Behind them a cabana faces the lake, unnecessary on such a gloomy day, abandoned by its occupants, a duplicate of themselves. They now stand quietly looking at the dark water which seems to go on forever.
