"Learning to Dance", oil on canvas, 16 " x 28" Private Collection

In a room, shared by a mysterious red bird, a couple begins to dance. Both are student and teacher. The wall of their room shows a landscape and what might be a lake behind it. In the other room, decorating the wall, are two dancers found in a book about the history of dance, implying a connection between present and past. This dance that repeats itself generation after generation.

The Dancers

Dance seems a natural and graceful metaphor for human activities
and dancers arrive unbidden
even in paintings occupied with other matters.
When figures become storytellers
the slightest nuance of position or movement is significant
speaking with a silent but clear voice
simultaneously revealing and mysterious
